Syllabus 2025

General Rules:

**Registration and Exam Notes: You can register with one selection, but for the provincial competitions, you must have two selections prepared. If you choose two selections, they must be selected from different lists.

**Competitor Level Selection Guidelines: If the exam takes place after January 31, 2025, candidates can continue to register for competitions at the same level; however, candidates whose exams are before this date cannot.

*NEW THIS YEAR* Classical Voice classes are no longer split into grade levels at the provincial level. They are now divided by age. Song selections MAY be from the RCM or CC lists but DO NOT need to be chosen from those lists since classes are no longer organized by level. Musical theatre, jazz or pop songs found in RCM Lists C (levels 1 – 6) or List D (Level 7 – 10) or CC popular lists should not be entered in classical voice classes. If unsure which class to enter, please send us an email to ensure you enter the right class.


Age group are divided as follows:
Beginner – ages 6 - 8
Elementary – ages 9 - 12
Junior – ages 13 - 15
Intermediate – ages 16 - 18
Advanced – ages 19 - 28
Adult – 29 and over


One Choice Classical Voice

One selection which can be art song or folk song in any language, memorized and accompanied with acoustic piano. Opera, operetta, oratorio, musical theatre, jazz and pop are not permitted in this class.

Art Songs in Italian

One selection which must be an art song, arietta or aria in Italian, memorized and accompanied
with acoustic piano. Musical Theatre, jazz, pop are not permitted.

German Lieder Solo

One selection which must be art song or lieder sung in German, memorized and accompanied with acoustic piano. Musical theatre, jazz and pop are not permitted.

French Chanson Solo

One selection which must be a French art song, sung in French, memorized and accompanied with acoustic piano. Musical theatre, jazz and pop are not permitted.

Canadian Composer Classical Voice

One selection of an art or folk song by a Canadian composer. Musical theatre and pop are not permitted. Contemporary or pop folk songs are not permitted.

Operetta, Opera and Oratorio

One selection accompanied by acoustic piano and memorized.

Concert Class – Classical Voice
Classical voice selections must be contrasting. Repertoire choices will be taken into consideration.

For Junior level and higher, one song should be in a language other than English.
Refer to number of selections for each level and time limit below.
