2026 Season Rules & Regulations

The following rules and regulations apply to the Star-MVP Music Festival 2026 season. All participants are required to read and comply with these rules when submitting an application and participating in the festival. These rules constitute the official and governing regulations for the 2026 season.

General

1. Age Determination
The competitor’s age is determined as of January 1, 2026.

2. Registration Deadlines & Fees

  • All entries and payments must be received by February 28, 2026.

  • Late entries may be accepted, subject to a $25.00 late fee (date subject to change depending on the number of entries).

  • Changes to entries (class changes or repertoire changes) are permitted until March 8, 2026, with a $15.00 fee per change.

3. Amateur Status

  • Children (Ages 6–18): Participation in unpaid local community theatre or short-term educational programs (<8 weeks) is allowed. Child performers who are ACTRA or Equity members are eligible if they have not done paid professional work for a continuous six-month period in the festival calendar year (Sept 1 – Aug 31). Paid commercial/film/voice-over work excludes entry in Speech Arts for that year.

  • Advanced (Ages 19–28) & Adults (29+):

      - Full members of ACTRA or Equity are not eligible for OMFA Provincial Finals, unless recommended in an unrelated discipline.

      - Full-time professional music teachers or performers are not eligible, except in a different discipline as an amateur.

      - Master’s degree holders are considered professionals; Bachelor’s degree holders or current Master’s students may compete if not performing/teaching professionally full-time.

      - Professional performers in amateur ensembles may compete as part of the group. 

      - If professional income is received after OMFA recommendation, competitor becomes ineligible; any entry fees refunded.

4. Refund Policy

  • No refunds will be issued for any reason. The festival will proceed as scheduled.

Performance

1. Deportment & Attire

Appropriate stage attire and footwear are required. Deportment and presentation are important elements of a polished performance.

2. Repertoire Use

A selection may be used in one class only and may not be reused in future festival seasons.

3. Music Scores

  • Original scores, books, or music must be provided for the adjudicator.

  • For digital music, a valid purchase receipt displaying the title and amount paid must be provided. Digital title pages alone are not accepted.

4. Announcements

  • Competitors must not announce their name or selection in Musical Theatre or Songs from the Screen and More.

  • Announcements in other disciplines are optional.

5. Attendance

Competitors must remain until their class is completed to receive adjudicator comments and placement.

 

6. Recording Policy

  • Video recording of performances is permitted by family members only.​

  • Recording of adjudicator comments is not permitted.

Entries

1. Level & Entry Limitations

  • Competitors must enter the same grade/age range level for Classical Voice, Piano, and Strings.

  • Competitors may not compete in more than one grade or age level.

2. Repertoire Declaration

  • All competitors must declare their repertoire on the entry form.

  • Incorrect repertoire or repertoire changes are subject to the $15.00 change fee and must be finalized by March 8, 2026.

Adjudication

1. Adjudication Rules

  • Competitors may be required to certify compliance with festival rules.

  • A minimum score of 85 is required for scholarships and provincial recommendations.

  • All competitors receive written adjudicator comments.

  • Adjudication is based on overall artistry, musicianship, communication, presentation, and attire.

  • No participant or family member may contact the adjudicator directly.

  • Recording of adjudicator comments and audience coaching are not permitted.

  • The adjudicator’s decisions are final.

2. OMFA Provincial Finals

  • Up to three competitors per class/level may be recommended.

  • Recommended competitors must accept or decline within two (2) days of notification.

  • Provincial entries and fees must be submitted by May 12, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

  • The OMFA Provincial Finals will take place June 8–13, 2026, in Kitchener–Waterloo.
